Today in MTA

It took me over an hour to complete my 30 minute commute to work.
Oh yea and I had two of the most notorious train riders.
First I get on the train and this dude goes and leans on the pole like he's the only body on the train. I promptly tap him on the shoulder and excuse him off the pole.
Then I'm holding on to said pole when I realize now I have a slider. You know those people who apparently excrete gel from their palms because their hand keeps sliding down the pole on to yours.
WTF! Hey greazy kids stuff!  Wash your damn hands or put some fucking tacky grip on your paws but stop fcking touching me.
Cue the water, soap and Purell.

Refreshing Rather Than Rant

Yea I know you're all used to reading me rant and go on about all the shit that's wrong with this world but I'm not feeling that way today.
Actually I AM still feeling that way because there IS A LOT of evil, ignorance, darkness and negativity going on all around us this very minute!
BUT I don't want to talk about that today. Today as I casually surfed the endless waves of the web, liked some items on Facebook and tweeted a couple of replies i had a quick thought.

As i tweeted to Mr. Shahrukh Khan (my favorite and one of the all-time most successful Bollywood actors) how much I enjoyed his movies Don & Don2, I wondered to myself if he would be making anymore movies with Kajol. (my favorite and one of the all-time most successful Bollywood actresses)

So came the next thought which was that they are one of my favorite movie couples of all time.
And so here it is.
Some of Da Wizard's all-time favorite movie couples, mainly from some of my favorite movies!

Oh yea, this is going to expose a certain side of me.... but I don't care. I'm a grown ass man.

Arthur & Guinevere - Excalibur

Yes I know the marriage was doomed from day one but he really loved her and she put up a good front most of the time. Plus they get extra points for having such a damn cool wedding!

Meg Ryan & Tom Hanks

C'mon! There can not possibly be anyone out there who doesn't like at least one of their movies! That's just not possible. Yes ok, Joe and the Volcano was kinda forgettable but Sleepless in Seattle? You've Got Mail? C'mon!

Him: I was married once before.
Her: What? What's her social security number?
If that isn't love?

Michael Douglas & Annette Bening - The American President

Cool idea, fun movie and proof that Douglas actually has a personality. Together they were spot on as a couple. Yes, it might give you a toothache from all the sugary sweetness but I see my dentist regularly.

Kate Beckinsale & John Cusack - Serendipity
Yes definitely a guilty pleasure. I love this movie. The chance meeting, the abrupt parting and the universe making shit happen as it should. Not only great chemistry between Beckinsale and Cusack but the supporting cast of Jeremy Piven, Molly Shannon, Eugene Levy, John Corbett AND our very own New York City is absolutely perfect.

Kajol Devgn & Shah Rukh Khan

Most of you reading this right now probably have never watched a Bollywood film. I understand, they are speaking Hindi, there are subtitles, there are musical numbers through out the movie and the movies are like 3 hours long. I get it.
So here is my suggestion, if you only watch ONE Bollywood movie in your life(AND YOU SHOULD) then watch one with Kajol and Shah Rukh. The chemistry these guys have is amazing. And their movies (6 in total) range from fun romantic comedies "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to more serious drama "My Name is Kahn"

Buy one, rent one, Netflix it, borrow it from a friend. Just let them entertain you.

Bogey & Bacall

What can I possibly say here? Icons. A true Hollywood, fairytale, storybook romance. I LOVE THESE GUYS. I love their movies, their true story and their timeless love. Just watch and enjoy!

And last but certainly not least, there's these guys here. These guys are special. This movie is special. I'm not finished watching it but by far these guys are the best I've ever seen.  ;-)
Long live great movies and great couples!

MSG's (10 year) swansong

"The Madison Square Garden Company's 50-year permit to operate the arena expired earlier this year, but it has been lobbying hard for a renewal in perpetuity, sending the likes of Walt Frazier, Earl Monroe, and Spike Lee to argue the case for staying. But the city has granted only a 10-year permit, after which the Garden will be knocked down for the redevelopment of Penn Station."

I kinda get it.
Moving people in and out of Manhattan is definitely a priority.
Even in its "improved" state, Penn Station is pretty crappy by New York standards.
We surely do need a new arena because you can't possibly have 4 major pro sports teams play in Brooklyn. And yes we all know only 3 championships have been won at The Garden but there's a lot more to a place's  history than just championships.

At MSG I got to see Ewing, Starks and Oakley get rained on by Mr. Jordan.

I saw Leech, Messier and the Great One vs Brodeur.

I saw Luis Miguel become the first Latin artist to sell out the Garden.
Gloria Estefan come out of the dark.
Guns N Roses Use their illusions.
Marc Anthony "sheck"ing it out.
Alicia Keys play the hell out of that piano.
Sting summon ten tales.
The AMAZING Cirque De Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal
and Metallica bring down the house on two different tours.

And lets not forget the many times we saw the circus. The Greatest Show on Earth!

Ok so maybe I'm talking about MY OWN history. Whatever! I'm sure all of you out there have at least one great memory of The Garden. I'm all for forward progress, increased efficiency, and positive changes but just like that kid in JHS or the Towers that once touched the sky, sometimes you just miss the things you grew up with.
Here is to the hope that we see both, a return of Penn Station to its former glory...

And a modernized, multifunctional and worthy of the New York skyline Madison Square Garden.

"Live in harmony with one another" - Romans 12:16

Extremely random thoughts...

So I see the world didn't end in a cataclysmic kiss of fire and water.

My ears are bleeding from the many "Oh my God, it's soo hot outside!" Ummm yea. It's July. Summer. In New York. Oh yea, and never surprising to anyone at all, EVER; It's from the same people who 7 months ago were saying "Oh my God, It's soo cold out!"
I'm not a summer person, never have been. Especially here in NY. You cant breathe, the city reeks of dead and decomposing things, people reek like dead and decomposing things and my wife gets cranky. (Sorry baby, I love you but you do.) I guess I'm a rare kind of New Yorker, I'm actually quite happy with the weather for 3 of the 4 seasons.

While on the subject of too hot, MTA you STILL SUCK ASS. Much like what the stations smell like these days because you STILL can't find a way to ventilate the system.
We put people on the moon. I can grow hair back on my head. They make food that's edible for 25 YEARS! (may not taste great but it has everything you need) But you, MTA, you expect us to believe that no one in NY or on the face of this planet can come up with an option to vent the subway stations?

Oh yea, wife and I are on week 6 of P90X and I notice a difference in my body. It HURTS!

Speaking of subways, i read somewhere someone mention Bernie Goetz in a comment praising Zimmerman. Damn shame. This dude is getting away with murder. Literally. How can you follow someone to the point of making them confront you and then claim self-defense? Self-preservation should have been to keep your ass in your car. AND how did this jury look at this and determine well he didn't do anything wrong? HE DID EVERYTHING WRONG YOU MORONS!!  He shouldn't have been following anyone. He shouldn't have left his car. AND HE placed HIMSELF in a position of danger just because he felt like it. and he killed someone. not just anyone. not an African-American person. you killed a kid. who gives a shit if he smoked weed, got suspended, solved the world hunger problem or saved the fcking polar caps. He was a kid.
If there are any real Dexter's out there. Time to go to work.

By the way, "Live in harmony with one another" - Romans 12:16. When i started writing this post i looked up and i saw this in front of me. It was the daily verse on the calendar the day I proposed to my wife. Awww. If the East coast doesn't get washed away this fall, maybe we can visit where it happened again.

So I'm confused about something else. After the verdict, after this case that had elements of white vs black, stop and frisk, lawlessness (Specifically, Zimmerman acted like there were no laws that applied to him or his actions), racial profiling, racial stereotyping etc.  After all of this and after every one is trying to establish the opposition of these "practices", people, the majority of which are African-American, go out and (rightfully so) protest the verdict. I'm 100% behind that.
But a little while later a bunch of them break off in another direction a few blocks away and proceed to vandalize and loot the local Walmart. Soooo let me understand this. You went to the protest to call for respectful, equal, non-suspicious treatment and justice but then you went and committed vandalism, mayhem, breaking & entering and theft. Yea. That makes a lot of sense. I'll wipe away that stigma right now for you.
Now i know that a larger percentage of the population is not like that so this for everyone else. Stop doing that shit you assholes! You cant cry for help when you're stabbing yourself. You cant move forward if you're stepping on your own ankle. And you cant shout racism when you keep reinforcing those same preconceptions you hate so much. All you're doing is fcking it up for everyone else.

I don't hate anyone over skin tone, language, nationality, race, eye color, shoe size, even for being a Mets fan, whatever. But lets face it, there are ricans, south americans, irish, french, canadians, germans, brits, persians, asians, indians, australians, african americans etc. that are making their people look bad. Stop the bullshit already.
"Live in harmony with one another" - Romans 12:16

I didn't say "white" people because as we know white in this country really means irish, italian, polish, german, english, or any other pale skinned European that immigrated here.

Hmmm I've said a lot here so far, haven't I? That's what happens when I don't post for so long.

Oh yes so to all the racist Dbags who had something negative to say about Sebastien De La Cruz at the NBA finals and Marc Anthony at the All-star game. Both were born in U.S. and ARE Americans. I apologize the system and your parents failed you. It's really difficult and very hard work being ignorant and a waste of clean air.  So my fck you hat goes off to you. Make yourself useful or just get the hell off the planet.
Ok I think I'm done for today. I'll come back soon. There are a few things I didn't cover.
